Why are you an IMA member?
We are an IMA member because of the great work IMA does on behalf of the iron mining and steel industry that is critical to us as operator of the largest privately held U.S. flag fleet on the Great Lakes.
What does your organization/company do?
Interlake Maritime Services serves as the marine transportation provider for raw materials to our Great Lakes industrial partners and, most notably, the steel industry. Our fleet of Great Lakes assets collectively move upwards of 20 million tons of bulk, free-flowing raw materials a year in the most cost-effective and environmentally responsible way possible.
How does the iron mining industry impact your company’s operations?
Iron ore is a critically important part of our business and a cornerstone to the Great Lakes industrial manufacturing supply chain.
How has the iron mining industry changed during your career?
The most profound change has been the consolidation of steel entities and suppliers supporting the same.
