Iron Mining Association urges immediate action

Though the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission decided today to limit the rate increase in interim rates for electric power customers of Minnesota Power, the Iron Mining Association of Minnesota (IMA) is disappointed that Minnesota’s iron mining industry will incur this increase while the mines are not yet able to take advantage of the rate credit for energy intensive-trade exposed (EITE) customers.

The reduced rate was approved by the Commission in September but has not yet been implemented.

“We urge the Commission to consider the economic challenges and hardships confronting Minnesota’s iron mining industry and continue to scrutinize Minnesota Power’s rate proposal to prevent unwarranted increases in electric power costs,” said IMA President Kelsey Johnson.
