Iron Mining Association of Minnesota promotes Katy Lofquist to Director of Operations
The Iron Mining Association of Minnesota (IMA) announced this month at its 25th annual meeting and dinner the promotion of Katy Lofquist from Media Manager to Director of Operations.
Lofquist has worked for the IMA – the only trade association that represents Minnesota’s iron mines and the companies that supply goods and services to the iron mines – since 2011 when she was hired as an Administrative Assistant. She was promoted to Media Manager in 2014.
Prior to joining the IMA staff, Lofquist worked as a reporter for the Hibbing Daily Tribune. She graduated from Concordia College Moorhead in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a focus on print journalism.
“I am so happy to have found a position that allows me to sharpen my communication skills while also working to support an industry that’s supported my hometown and family since before I was born,” said Lofquist, who grew up in Virginia, Minn.
As Director of Operations, Lofquist will continue to manage the IMA’s media presence, organize membership events, represent the association and industry at local, regional, and statewide events, and handle the association’s internal communications as well as operation of the association’s Duluth office. In addition, she will oversee intern staff, serve on regional and statewide boards, and take a stronger role in membership development and outreach.
“Katy has grown as a professional in the time that she has been with the IMA,” said IMA President Kelsey Johnson. “She is an incredible leader in our industry and within the association. This title change better reflects the talents and commitment she brings to her role, and I’m excited to see her continued growth.”
