IMA donates to local food shelves

Members of the Iron Mining Association of Minnesota (IMA), a trade association representing Minnesota’s iron mines and businesses that supply goods and services to the iron mines, raised $2,200  to donate to local food shelves this month during the association’s annual Funspiel curling event.

Seventeen local businesses contributed to this fundraiser, including: AMI Consulting Engineers, AW Kuettel & Sons, American Bank of the North, ArcelorMittal Minorca Mine, Benetech, Compudyne, GPM, Industrial Lubricant Co., Iracore International,  KGM Contractors, Lind Industrial Supply, Mars Supply, Premium Plant Services, Road Machinery & Supplies, TASSCO,  Tricon Wear Solutions, and United Truck Body.

A food drive was also held at the curling event, through which IMA members were able to donate $1,100 and a box of food to both the Hibbing and Virginia Salvation Armies.  These entities were selected in an effort to best serve the largest number of Iron Range residents, as together both food shelves have a large coverage area.

This is the fourth year the IMA Funspiel has collected money for local food shelves – and the second it’s included a food drive.

“We are happy to partner with local businesses and IMA members to continue to provide support for our communities and those facing difficult times,” said IMA President Kelsey Johnson

The IMA promotes an iron ore industry that will provide long-term growth and prosperity for all stakeholders through profitability in a competitive, global market. It pursues that mission through public education and information, working on public policies affecting iron mining and partnering with educational institutions.
