IMA members encouraged to get involved with Eveleth-Gilbert and Virginia School Career Academies Committees

The Eveleth-Gilbert and Virginia School Boards have created four committees for the purpose of digging deeper into details on how Career Academies might look and operate on the East End of the Range. The public is welcome to attend these committee meetings. (None of these committees are school board meetings. Some school board members may be present at any committee meeting but only as participants. No school board decisions will be made at any of these committee meetings.)

IMA members are encouraged to get involved with any of the committees they see fit:

  • Facilities:
    • September 25 at 5:00 p.m. Meet at Virginia High School, door 3
    • October 3 at 6:00 p.m. Meet at Gilbert School
  • Finance:
    • September 27 at 12:30 p.m. Meet at the restaurant, Boomtown, Eveleth
    • October 11 at 12:00 p.m. Location TBD
    • October 16 at 12:00 p.m. Location TBD

(Any TBD meeting locations will be published as they become finalized. Any additional meeting dates for any committee will also be published. Some committees will meet more often than other committees. However, it is anticipated that each of these public committees will be finished sometime in mid-November.)

The Academies recommended for the East end of the Range by the Educational Academies Task Force are:

  1. Health Sciences, Technology, and Human Services
  2. Engineering, Manufacturing, Technology, Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources
  3. Business, Management, Administration, Arts, Communications, and Information Systems

If you would like to join any of these committees, please give either the Eveleth-Gilbert superintendent, Jeff Carey (218-744-7700), or the Virginia school superintendent, Noel Schmidt (218-742-3901) a phone call.
